This post will be my record of all the films I watch this month. Continuing on from last month I am trying to watch more films at home or the cinema. I will list them a white a line or two about it about it and link to anything I blog about it.
Also here is the link to the main index to go to each month.
To start I will add what I have seen since the start of the year in order.
01. Felidae (01.02.16)
Cats. Murders. Experimentation. Mystery. A film in the vain of Watership Down, very realistic but with a fantastical premise. Well made and told.
02. Fantastic Planet [Gandahar] (03.02.16)
What a odd film. A French animation from the mid to late 80s its about a race of people who are being killed off by weird robot like things. There are thinly veiled messages about the danger of communism and the like. Not a fan of the animation it seemed to stiff and void of emotion like the story. It didn't grab me but it wasn't bad.
03. Breaking Glass (07.02.16)
Hazel O'Connor is fantastic, her songs and performance are full of emotion (somewhat ironical as she portrays herself as a robot) With the social unrest in the UK at the time as a nice backdrop the film doesn't shy form any topics and even had a bit of a sad/ambiguous ending.
04. Ex Machina (12.02.16)
A very cleaver and low key film, Though they kept it simple it was engaging look at AI. Loved the ending, I'm not a fan of twists on twists but this worked well. It also shows just how much of a moving goal true AI is.
05. My Neighbours the Yamadas [Studio Ghibli] (14.02.16)
A very fun and silly film. Love the art and music and most of the jokes stuck. Perhaps a bit long but I enjoyed watching it.
06. Deadpool [Cinema] (15.02.16)
A fantastic film. Funny, crazy and down right brutal. Loved it to bits.
07. Interstellar (21.02.16)
A outstanding film. Up there with 2001 and in some ways better. It could be the best realistic 'SiFi' film I have ever seen. Probably going to be one of my all time favourite films.
08. Darkman (22.02.16)
Pure 90s schlock, A comic book film with no comic. Its not bad just very run of the mill dark comic book action in the vain of Batman. Liam Neeson is terrific in it but the is some bad acting.
09. Looper (27.02.16)
What a mess. Too much going on and so much of it didn't tie up as well as it should have. If it was a long form TV show or a 2 part film it could of worked. Some of the directions was awful as well. It almost works but fails to hold together.
10. Dareka no Manazashi [Someone's Gaze] (28.02.16)
Though its only 7 minuets long is a great film. Touching on the drifting apart of parent and child. It covers the loneliness of moving on and how ties can be rebuilt. I love the subtle futuristic setting it gives a great way of showing communication without resorting to breaking the shot.
11. Spirited away [Studio Ghibli] (29.02.16)
A utter-ally brilliant film. Love the plot, art, music and characters. The is so much that can be said and I can see why it is thought so highly of. It follows the now standard meandering plot through some bizarre set pieces and is great all the way through. I very much loved the physical humour and slapstick it was very funny at times.
And here we are the end of another month. Shorter that the last but not short of great films. 11 in total this time with 5 being animations and even a short film. It hard to pick the best but I'm still thinking about Interstellar and Ex Machina a lot. On to march :)
